Modular collaboration
– A compositional strategy (2006 - present)

All of the recent ALULA TON SERIEN projects and concerts were developed
and implemented under the compositional premises of a practice termed
MODULAR COLLABORATION.

Each MODULAR COLLABORATION is the development of a systemic
composition, which can either result in a concert performance, in an installation,
or as most often, in a hybrid of both.

In a systemic composition participants are developing individual MODULES,
which include an instrument and the placement/role within the overall system.
This placement involves relating one individual MODULE to the site and to the
other MODULES.

The goal is to explore and experiment with new ways of composing and
collaborating.

Through MODULAR COLLABORATIONS a non-hierarchical, decentralized form
of organization is put into practice, replacing the single artist or composer as the
creative genius. Pieces are developed between interconnected equals as
processes of adopting basic materials and themes into systemic compositions.

The name of the respective group is formed by listing the last names of all
participants in alphabetical order.
